INTRO

Brooklyn runs the mafia LAVENDER MARES. She is often referred to affectionately as "Brook" or "ol' Brooks" by Mary and Sapphire. Brooklyn hates it. Her legal name was March. She doesn't necessarily dislike the name, she just had to change her identity. She's the eldest child in her family, between June and October. She ran away after October attempted suicide. She dyed herself pink somehow.

BACKGROUND

Brooklyn and her sisters June and October came from a big family. Born to a single mother that spent most of her time captaining an ocean liner, the sisters were mainly raised by their various uncles. All of them put an unbearable amount of pressure on the three of them to be the perfect nieces - or, in October's transfeminine case, the perfect nephew.

The aging caregivers lived in an apartment complex by the coast so that they could stay close to Brooklyn and her sisters, and to care for their grandparents that nobody wants to put in a retirement home just yet. Brooklyn was always interested in the sea, wondering if her mother would ever take her out on the open water. She knew it was futile to hope so, remembering the plain disgust on her mother's face when Brooklyn so much as left her sneakers untied, but she just knew she was her mother's favorite, and she'd have to take her on the boat eventually, right? Right?

Brooklyn was always a bit arrogant, really. She never understood why people didn't like that about her. Shouldn't everyone have their noses high in the air, their favorite shade of lipstick a permanent stain on the bathroom mirror? That was what her mother was like, and her mother was always right! Even her sisters got annoyed with Brooklyn's self-importance after a while, and she never got what was so wrong with being proud. Though, maybe everyone's dislike of her was more due to her brash, defiant nature more than anything.

One day, Brooklyn walked into her shared room to find June tending to October's wounds. Gashes of red across October's arms, smearing the fur crimson. Brooklyn didn't know why anyone would do something so vile to a sister of hers, knowing the kinds of grudges Brooklyn holds. It made even less sense after October begrudgingly spat out that she had done it to herself. Brooklyn knew that their living situation could be a smidge better, but seriously? Whatever could have justified October turning to that? If it was their uncles always pushing the sisters to be the best, then maybe October was just too lazy to try! Was it their absent mother? She was the only reason they could afford to live in this middle class coastal neighborhood! Brooklyn scorned October for being so ungrateful from that day forward.

Brooklyn's sister June was a different story. She got the good grades, she dreamt of starting a hospital, and she saw Brooklyn for just how wonderful she was from the start. Just like Brooklyn, she met all of their caregivers high standards with absolutely flying colors. Until she got jacked as hell from gymnastics, of course. Their uncles weren't too happy that June wasn't being their ideal feminine niece, and honestly? Neither was Brooklyn? Despite being pansexual herself, she had always had rather conservative views about gender roles. Though of course, she'd never voice that to her favorite sister, even with how important she believed her opinions to be, so Brooklyn just judged June's strong arms quietly.

October eventually came out to her sisters as a trans girl, which rubbed Brooklyn the wrong way. It wasn't that Brooklyn was against her most ungrateful sister's comfort, no, she'd use the pronouns and let October borrow the dresses for as long as she wanted. It was just how ungrateful October was. Her mother built that body for her from the ground up, gave her the beautiful name of August, and October had just decided on a whim that she didn't want any of that. It made Brooklyn absolutely furious.
When Brooklyn engaged October in a screaming match, October didn't even say anything. Shrinking into herself, like she knew damn well just how ashamed her mother would be. June didn't say anything either, even when Brooklyn had thrown a punch in a fit of completely unladylike rage. The two of them had learned that saying anything would only get them hurt whenever Brooklyn or the uncles got like this. At least they ate what they were served in some regards.

The day after the fight, one of their uncles found October passed out in the bathroom, empty pill bottle sitting at the edge of the sink.

June looked so pissed when she saw Brooklyn sobbing over October's near-lifeless body in the hospital.

"If I'd known it would take fucking suicide for you and Mom to care about Toby," June spat. "I would've done it too."

That was when Brooklyn bolted. She knew how disappointed her mother would be, and she knew how ungrateful she was being, letting her uncles' effort be for naught, but she wasn't thinking. Her mind was merely repeating a mantra of "Fuck June, fuck October, fuck your uncles, fuck your mother. You're above all of them."
She ran into two delinquents on her run to who-knows-where. The first thing that came to her mind was saying, "Hey, punks. Wanna start a gang?" Brooklyn's haughty allure must've been the only thing that made the disheveled orphans - that she later learned were named Sapphire and Mary - say yes, considering how disgusting Brooklyn must've looked from crying so hard over October.

Together, they ran to Capwich and built their gang, LAVENDER MARES, until it was big enough to call a mafia. She doesn't really do a lot of the dirty work that comes with running a mafia nowadays, often using her position to score a fuckbuddy more often than not.

DESIGN NOTES

  • If you aren't depicting Brooklyn being all tough, she really prefers wildly impractical feminine clothing above all else.

TRIVIA

  • Brooklyn isn't naturally pink. She bathed in dye to change her identity.
  • Brooklyn has really conservative views on gender roles. Even though. She runs a gang.
  • Brooklyn never backs down from a fight.
  • Brooklyn likes to think she's true to herself and stands by her morals, but then she conveniently forgets all that to make a quick buck.
